I made this infographic to show the journey of three elements: cacao, wheat, and clay; substances that are transformed in chocolate, bread and ceramics. They go through similar processes such as: grinding, mixing with some kind of liquid, commingling, baking…They start together as elements in the soil, and they sprout. At the end of the transformation they come together again in a cup.
This graphic was part of the Conchopea design exhibition at the museum of chocolate (MuCho) during the Abierto Mexicano de Diseño in 2014. The project is a ceramic cup inspired by traditional Mexican bread, as well as the tradition of dipping bread in chocolate. I really enjoyed doing this research, and translating all this concepts and processes for this abstraction.
My research also finds similitudes in the meanings of bread + chocolate: Both are treated as symbols of power, used as currency, and they have deep cultural significance in rituals and offerings.
